Juan Bautista Gutierrez Foundation
Fact Sheet

History: Created in 1986 to centralize and formalize a series of social and benefit projects that the shareholders had carried out for several years. The Foundation is named after the founder of the companies that today make up Multi Inversions Corporation who set an example of hard work and admiration to his family, collaborators and communities who had the opportunity to know him. The Foundation is the social branch of the Corporation dedicated to social services with emphasis in health and education.

Mission: Apolitical entity dedicated to social service working to maintain the ideals of community service and solidarity which Mr. Juan Bautista Gutierrez lived by through programs and donations with emphasis in education and health.

Supporting Those Who Support

– Economic award that publicly recognizes organizations who carry out social work in health and education. In six consecutive years the Foundation has donated 8.7 million quetzales to 46 winners. This year the judges must look through 116 proposals to decide the 11 winners, which will be awarded August 21st, 2008. The total amount given to the winning organizations this year is 2millon quetzales.

University Scholarship Program

- Scholarships for young people with limited economic resources that cover all personal and educative expenses the student might incur during his or her University years. From 258 proposals, 64 young men and women from different parts of the country passed to the second round of competition and took general knowledge exams. In October the names of the students who will become members of the University Scholarship Program will be reviled. Today of a total of 47 scholarship granted, thirteen have graduated from the program and are now professionals with distinguished jobs.

The Educator of the New Millennium

Motivational workshop for primary teachers; in its first phase, between 2003 and 2006, the Educator of the New Millennium trained more than 24,660 teachers of the private and public sector covering 15 departments and benefiting more than 600,000 children of our nation. In April of 2007 the second phase and follow-up began with the theme: Reading as an Indispensable Tool; 5,415 teachers have been trained with the follow-up program.

Mi Health…My Responsibility

Started in early 2008, it’s a reproductive health program with an educational approach conducted in alliance with United Nations Population Fund – UNFPA – whose main objective is to reduce maternal deaths as well as teen pregnancies, STD’s and HIV and AIDS in young men and women between the ages of 14 and 24 in the Guatemalan village of Jalapa.

The two main themes of the workshops that will be given to the target audience are: Abilities for Life (Self esteem, leadership, Life Project, Conflict Resolution, etc.) and Reproductive and Sexual Health (Safe and Clean Birth, Teen Pregnancy Prevention, Planned Parenthood, Gender Violence Prevention, STD’s, HIV and AIDS Prevention).


 
 

Response to Emergencies

In national catastrophes the Foundation has constituted itself as an administrative entity in charge of coordinating aid as was the case for the tropical storm STAN in 2005, the fight against famine in Jocotán y Camotán in 2001 and Hurricane MITCH in 1998.
